Music Video Director
James Chappell is a young director of music videos, short films and TV commercials, having trained under acclaimed Director Stephan Elliott (Priscilla Queen of The Desert) on the Australian-British film A Few Best Men.
His directing style is dynamic and diverse, inspired by the wonder and terror he felt as a kid watching 80's and 90's genre movies. With each project, he aims for high-concept ideas and original narratives that maximise visual impact. His operating motive is to deliver 'shock and awe'.
James's short film The Keeper was awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick and screened at the Tyrolean Independent Film Festival in Austria in 2014.
Since directing music videos for Sony Music Australia, he has directed the National TVC campaign for 'Hello Sunday Morning'. James was also awarded another Vimeo Staff Pick in 2015 for his action-packed music video 'The Grid' by The Bloody Beetroots.
James is currently developing a new horror short film called Tar Baby and an action short called Proceeds Of Crime.
After the recent launch of his BROADHURST music video, James has now signed with U.S production company Interrogate for TV commercial representation in Australia and the US. Other artists he has worked with include Mat Zo, Savage, We Are The Brave, Art Vs Science and Tiesto.
He is currently set to direct his first feature film Thunder Road in 2016.
