Acting Director of the University of Melbourne’s Carlton Connect Initiative
Jacyl Shaw is currently acting director of the University of Melbourne’s Carlton Connect Initiative, a capital and cultural project whereby the University of Melbourne with partners from government, industry and community will transform the former Royal Women’s Hospital into a leading national innovation precinct. By positioning world-class talent with 21st century technologies in the heart of the city, its goal is to drive global economic and social transformation.
Jacyl has worked as a corporate lawyer, Supreme Court Judges Associate, in practice management at a national law firm and undertaken many consultancies in international education. At the university she has over 15 years' experience in chancellery, international strategy, at Asialink and the Australia India Institute. Jacyl was deputy director of the University’s Festival of Ideas in 2009 and 2011.
Jacyl has a Masters of Laws, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Enterprise. In 2011, she was awarded the University of Melbourne’s Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Engagement and in 2016 undertook a prestigious U21 Professional Staff Scholarship to benchmark engagement and impact strategies of universities globally that are developing innovation precincts, partnership and placemaking with local ecosystems (city government, industry and community).
Jacyl is a board director of Melbourne University Publishing and the Microsoft Research Centre for Natural User Interfaces.
