Vivid Sydney for Kids, by 8-year-old Alexia G
Our Project Manager Brad’s 8-year-old daughter Alexia picks-out some of her favourites for the ultimate Vivid Sydney experience for kids.
Little legs don’t need to walk for miles to experience the magic of Vivid Sydney. You can always do multiple bite-size visits. Get mum and dad to mark out one or more Saturdays from 28 May to 18 June and start your adventures at Tumbalong Park with a FREE 5pm concert from the likes of Teeny Tiny Stevies and Justine Clarke.
Zoom through Darling Quarter to find the ‘camp site’ installation Bump in the Night on your way to Darling Harbour for all sorts of eats. Play amongst Checkmate and marvel at the water fountain fiesta Sydney Infinity.
Zip across to Central Station via The Goods Line following the colourful neon birds Future Natives along the way. Once at Central, get in on the action with Vivid Reflections. Clever motion capture technology turns your dance moves into avatars – then beams them onto the Clock Tower – in real time!
From Central you could hop on a train to Circular Quay...
Ice-cream is essential, so refuel with a colour-changing gelato at Messina once you get to Circular Quay. While savouring your technicolour delight, watch Ken Done’s For Sydney with Love light-up Customs House. Then discover Ninget Universe where aliens, animals, and kooky characters from 11-year-old Luca’s imagination splash onto the ASN Clocktower in The Rocks.
Use the sugar rush to explore the light art along the western promenade including the epic New York Sunday on the Museum of Contemporary Art, totem flower Light Sentinels, and the powerful, Transformer-like Earth Deities. Then, be wowed by Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground morphing across the Sydney Opera House sails – in sync with colour-changing boats as part of Vivid Lights on Sydney Harbour.
Convince your parents to stay out past bedtime, and catch the ferry across the harbour to Luna Park. You could even twist their arms into having a sleep over in a city hotel – so you can see more of Vivid Sydney the next night!
We're almost at the end but we can't leave out Wild Lights at Taronga, save this one for your next night at Vivid Sydney and see Taronga bathed in a rainbow of colour as creatures from land, sky and sea emerge larger than life.
