Moontown Records Showcase

For Vivid Sydney, Moontown Records will present an evening that utilises the entirety of Freda's as a stage, collaborating with visuals artists and musicians to create an immersive environment that will include musical performances, installation and projections.

Moontown Records is an independent record label formed in Canberra in 2012 out of necessity to expose and validate unheard music from friends living in the small Victorian city of Geelong. Since then the label has continued strongly to release close to 50 physical releases on cassette tape, vinyl and digital download.

Since the humble beginnings the label has released music from musicians across Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth). A process that has organically grown to nurture and praise exclusively Australian music.

The music released is not fixed to a specific genre, but a common ethos — a playful feeling of making do within the limitations of your immediate surroundings, which is often highly restricted. Moontown’s output has become prolific and well received within Australia and overseas.

Moontown regularly holds events and label showcases to promote the artists they represent. Moontown has gained a reputation as having a diverse, unique and accessible sound while being truly passionate about everything they release. Moontown’s output has served an important archive of contemporary Australian music and will continue to do so for years to come.
