Why does drawing make you feel good? Can movement really help change your brain?

Experience first-hand how art, play and creativity can be an essential antidote for uncertainty, anxiety, fear and trauma.

As we reel and sway and relearn how to gather, connect and commune, the need to look after our minds as well as our bodies is more crucial than ever. And guess what? Being creative is good for us, just like going to the gym, brushing your teeth and eating your vegetables. Just like building muscle, flexing our creativity takes practice.

MakeShift invites you into a safe space to draw, dance and have a whole lot of fun. Think self-portraits gone wrong and powerful moves with oversized drawings as their backdrop. Enjoy this cross artform approach as a creative prescription for health and wellbeing.

Join acclaimed dancer and choreographer Emma Saunders along with Marvel Comics artist Marcelo Baez for this mash-up interactive art-fuelled workout, by creative first-aiders MakeShift. Experience the world a little differently and discover why ‘play’ really is a serious business.

*Your ticket includes your own take home postcard prescription of PLAY to help keep the window of CURIOSITY, DELIGHT and AWE open.

About MakeShift

Often dance and visual arts are talked about as a type of therapy. MakeShift use these practices to ignite and cultivate moments of play, radical delight, self care and FUN! They remind us that looking after your mental health doesn't have to be hard, expensive and complicated, but just takes a bit of curiosity, bravery (and black felt pens)!

Makeshift is Australia's first creative prescribing agency, and has designed courses and programs where professional artists share their practice in fun ways to educate people that managing your mental health CAN be in YOUR hands. This approach is being heralded as the' future of mental health treatment' and applies to every single living human.

  • Hearing loop - A hearing loop (sometimes called an audio induction loop) is a special type of sound system for use by people with hearing aids. The hearing loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to 'T' (Telecoil) setting. Many venues have an induction hearing loop system. Check if your venue has this system.
  • Wheelchair accessible - Access to the venue is suitable for wheelchairs (toilets, ramps/lifts etc.) and designated wheelchair spaces are available.
